“I love teaching clients how to develop self compassion and create a positive relationship with themselves.”
As a teenager, feeling overwhelmed by pressures at school and struggles within my family, the only ways I knew to cope were self-harm and disordered eating. I know what it’s like to wake up every day to the binge-restrict cycle, feeling trapped and hopeless and never enough. Going to therapy helped me develop a foundation of self-compassion, which allowed me to find coping strategies that nurtured me. Learning about the Intuitive Eating approach in therapy truly changed my life–not only healing my relationship with food and with my body, but allowing me to develop a friendship with myself, treating myself with the same love and respect as I would show to anyone else.
Knowing that this inner transformation is possible is what fueled my desire to become a therapist. Nothing is more wonderful to me than when a client “gets it”–is able to break free from self-criticism, to feel empowered in their life, to know that change and hope are within reach. I specialize in working with clients with anxiety, depression, eating disorders and OCD. As a person-centered therapist, the most important piece for me is creating a relationship in which you feel seen and heard in the fullness of who you are, without judgment. I love teaching clients how to develop self compassion and create a positive relationship with themselves. It is possible!
I use an eclectic approach of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to help you uncover thought and behavior patterns that may be holding you back, and to help realign you with your values. This will help you create more sustainable ways of thinking and living. For individuals with OCD, I utilize Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) to help you break free from your compulsions and face your fears.
Additionally, I have a special interest in working with clients who are going through a faith transition or are interested in incorporating faith or spirituality into their sessions. I have a master’s degree in Divinity in addition to counseling. However, whatever brings you to therapy at this time, I am excited to meet you where you are and honored to support your growth!
No sugar, but strong with plenty of half & half or milk.
A better question would be, “what dessert DON’T you like?” I have such a sweet tooth, but homemade chocolate chip cookies always hit the spot.
Daniel Radcliffe (actor from Harry Potter movies). Actually, not so much hero as biggest crush…11-year-old me may or may not have written him a letter asking him to marry me?
Fred Rogers, of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. What a cool and compassionate human!
I’ve been slowly learning Spanish for the past few years. Not fluent yet, pero estoy tratando!
