I was a couple years out of college when I really tried therapy for the first time. I had dealt with intense anxiety since childhood, and was going through a period of extreme depression. At that time I did not even recognize that some of the feelings and thoughts I was struggling to process were the result of trauma. I know first-hand how lonely and isolating it can be when those intense emotions feel crippling and you can’t even pinpoint what is causing them. Therapy changed my life, and empowered me to better understand and take care of myself.
It was the profound impact that therapy had on my life that helped to inspire me to pursue a career as a therapist. I have always been very empathetic, and even as a child people would remark that I was easy to talk to. As a therapist I want to support my clients on their journey of self-exploration through an approach that is rooted in respect, compassion and acceptance of each client, meeting them where they are at in the present moment. I utilize a combination of narrative, solution-focused, CBT, Mindfulness, and behavioral theories in my practice. I strive to work as a partner with my clients in this work, collaboratively structuring our sessions based on their goals and their own insight. Before becoming a therapist, I spent four years at a local victim services agency educating the community about sexual violence and serving as a crisis counselor/ advocate. This work instilled in me a passion for supporting individuals who have been impacted by trauma as they work to reclaim their power.
