I specialize in the LGBTQ+ community, because, for me, it’s personal. I gained a particular interest when I saw the parents of my children’s friends struggling to accept their kids’ identities. As a therapist, I knew the potential harm they were causing their children by not embracing and celebrating them. Then, my daughter came out as transgender. Despite all my education, my self-concept as an ally, and my ability to be open-minded and accepting, I grieved. Through the support of my local PFLAG chapter, I learned that my feelings were normal and were in no way an indication that I did not love and accept my daughter. About two years later my son came out as gay. I cherish the ability to help people who identify as LGBTQ+ to discover and celebrate their authentic selves. I am honored to help loved ones learn to accept and become allies to their families.

The cornerstone of therapy is trust. I approach treatment through the lens of transparency and authenticity. While I specialize in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, I utilize other modalities, such as ACT, motivational interviewing, DBT and CPT, in order to tailor treatment to best suit the needs of the client. People are resilient. With the correct supports thriving is possible. Being in therapy myself has changed my life and I want to be that same support to my clients that my therapist was to me and help others to thrive.

I will always live on a coast. The idea of not having access to an ocean makes me feel landlocked, as if, somehow, I need access to the ocean in order to feel like I can escape.
